Hangzhou Mountian Marathon - China - By David Caselli
The 42 km course is set in the mountains around the lake and city of Hangzhou.
What a great place, it’s the Queenstown of China – green bush clad hills, surrounded by mountains full of paved and unpaved walking trails. Each year the course is remarked by Nicolas Musy, one of the pioneers of this event. It started and finished on the steps of the Shangri-La Hotel, by the West Lake, and meandered up and down 12 peaks around the surrounding villages.
Hangzhou Mountain Marathon – China - by Luke Nolan
I just read David Caselli’s race report. As one of my training partners in the “urban running” of Shanghai life we get plenty of time to chat on our usual 10-15k midweek loop around Puxi. When I kept hearing about the weekend long runs in Hangzhou that I was missing I didn’t think too much of it. Okay fine there are no hills in Shanghai but I can do stair training and that will help right?
No is what I found out when I did get out to Hangzhou......
Gobi March. An Endurance Test and a Holiday - China - by Luke
Nolan
The Gobi March is a two hundred and fifty kilometer trail
race through the Taklamakan desert in western Xinjiang province China
near the border with Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
When I signed up
for the Gobi March in 2008 I didn’t even own a pair of running shoes.

situation. I was a total novice and certainly knew nothing about the
requirements of ultra running in extreme races.
Until I signed up for it that is..... Read the full report.........

A Wild West style motorcycle adventure across the Taklimakan Desert - China - By John Mckenna
Recently, I was off adventuring again, this time into the Urumqi area.
I was invited to join a motorcycle rally called “Around Taklimakan
Desert Race” during the May holiday break.
It was a ten-day, staged rally across the Taklimakan Desert
covering 4000 kilometers.
The race featured approximately 60 motorbike riders, 100 4WD vehicles and was
covered by TV and support crews. This was the first time a foreign team had
entered the race and was able to gain a high level of exposure. With ten foreign riders, we were actually the
biggest team in the race. Our sponsor
was the Chinese-based Qingqi Suzuki Motorcycle Company, which provided us the
bikes and supplied all the support crews and vehicles.
